I believe when one door closes, another one opens. There is nothing worse, in my opinion, of being stuck in that middle ground of a maybe. Stuck on the fence on not going one way or the other. Sometimes when you make a decision to go one way, the right thing will come along that perhaps wouldn’t have come along if you didn’t fully shut the door and stayed on the fence about it. I feel like one needs to be true to oneself and have some integrity in one's decisions too. Not just doing things that don’t really make sense. I like to work on things that I believe in and am more than happy to decline an opportunity as I am to accept one. But I do keep an open mind on such matters too because sometimes I can be quick to shoot something down without digesting what it’s all about. Maybe it’s not a good fit right now, but who knows? Down the line, it may be. But I do think it’s just as important what you say no to as what you say yes to. Being decisive is sometimes difficult, but just making up one’s mind and moving ahead one way or the other is vital in my opinion. You look at successful people, and they are so confident in their decisions - or at least appear to be. I think you have to be willing to make the wrong decision sometimes and live and learn and take that risk because it could’ve ended up being the right decision. But unless you try, you would never know. I also think over time you have successful actions that work, so making decisions becomes a lot easier the more you make them and see what works.

I think another thing that is important that I view in myself is the ability to change my mind.  Being rigid and stuck in one’s ways can be a hindrance, in my opinion. As I have grown and matured as a person and a business owner and designer, I have learned to change my viewpoints on things. It is important to be able to walk in my own shoes, whilst also being able to walk in another’s. That has been a vital thing to wrap my head around. People are so different. Some people love my clothing from 10 years ago, some people like it from 5 years ago and some people like it from this year. That is why I have a 7” short, a 6” short and a 5” short. People have their own look and ideas. And I can’t be everything to everyone, but I think I like to try to offer a solution to people that they can’t get elsewhere. Hence, why we go up to a 4XL because I know that guy can’t get it from somewhere else, and I want to be their go-to. At the end of the day, being nimble and pivoting when things indicate one must keeps one relevant and in business all these years. I can’t forget where I come from either and alienate those that liked a certain look or style. We still hold true to our DNA, but we move forward. I liken it to going into a Ralph Lauren store and still offering a polo. If Ralph stopped doing polos, people would be upset. With a number of hits under our belts from 12 years in business, opening the vault every once in a while and offering people the opportunity to get a brand new one only makes sense. It’s like the latest retro Jordans. You can still get those today, even if the original came out in 1985. So even though that door was closed long ago, we still got the keys and the recipe to re-open it.
