The Sunday Paper: Eye on the Future

With 2023 almost upon us and the sun setting on 2022, planning is well advanced for the new year. It has been a while since I have done a Sunday Paper, so I thought I would take this time to gather some thoughts about the present and the future. These past couple months have been busy and challenging, to say the least. With that said, there’s plenty to look forward to in the new year and beyond, and I can’t wait to get into it. With the pandemic behind us, to some degree, I feel a fresh outlook for 2023. Sure, there’s plenty of doom gloom out there in the world, but when has there not been? There’s plenty to look forward to, and I feel that a person can create their future. Sometimes I find myself waiting for things to happen, not often, but then I realize I must create it. So, for 2023 we are already creating it.

To backtrack a little, this past month was heavily focused on our BigFace Coffee collab with Jimmy Butler for Art Basel. That in my view was a huge success, and a lot went into pulling that off. Quite stressful, but in the end thoroughly rewarding. I learned a lot from the experience that will stand me in good stead for future activations. In saying that, we are also looking at something in the new year with them again for those that couldn’t attend the Miami pop-up, so stay tuned. This collab for me was a combining of passions, so to speak. I am an avid coffee drinker and a lover of sports and fashion. All three of these elements were present in this collab. I am also a huge fan of Miami, so that didn’t hurt either. And heading out there with the family for a few days was another memory created together. I am glad to share these moments with my kids. After Miami was all said and done for this trip, we drove up to Tampa Bay to create some more memories. We headed straight for our favorite coffee shop in St. Pete called Bandit and then followed that up with a Bucs game to see Tom Brady pull off a last-minute victory over the Saints.

With the dust now settled on Art Basel Miami, I have been immersing myself in the FIFA World Cup, as well as planning being well underway for our next collab and activation for February in New York. I can’t say too much about that collab just yet, but it has been in the works for a good couple years. So to bring that one to fruition will be exciting for sure.

So as we head into the holiday season in LA, I must say this is one of my favorite times of year to be here. The weather is cooler by LA standards, wardrobe options are expanded and layering is possible for a change. I also love the chance to unwind with family and prepare for the new year ahead. With plenty of travel plans for 2023, it is nice to just be at home over the holidays. Although, I do miss my family in Australia this time of year, and I am hoping next Christmas to head down under to spend Christmas in the sun.

Happy Holidays!
Daniel Patrick
